Oh, what a wonderful word... the start of something fun?

April 21, 2018 4 Comments

I have always had a fascination with words. One of my favourite words is 'Palaverous', which basically means: to be wordy, verbose, given to palaver. I have been thinking about my word-love and how there are probably other crazy people out there that love words as much as I do. I shared a fun word definition on our social media pages today; I would like to make this a regular thing with an associated hashtag so you could follow and get involved.

What should we blog about?

What should we blog about?

April 12, 2018

Our small business has some big changes going on this year and one thing we really want to do is start a proper blog for Newton and the Apple, with regular posts. But, we don't want to just post anything for the sake of posting... we really want to know what you would love to read about so we've opened this up for your comments. We've made some suggestions for topics we could write about but there is no point us rambling on if they aren't topics you would want to read about.

Geology rocks

Geology rocks

November 02, 2017

I mentioned in the last blog post that we had started a new tradition in our family of buying rocks as presents for my young nephew, Jack. This idea worked brilliantly; he is now super enthusiastic about rocks and it makes present-buying at Christmas pretty easy really (and fun). His first rock was paired with a big book all about geology so we're sharing that today and we have the junior geologist himself in the studio telling us about his favourite rocks from his growing collection.

Gifts for the coolest of small people

Gifts for the coolest of small people

October 17, 2017

Ever since the announcement that I was going to have a nephew, I have been that crazy aunty who goes nuts at Christmas and birthdays. Before he was even born, Jack was the owner of a 3D solar system that lit up and had all the planets properly orbiting around a glowing sun.  Every year I challenge myself to find something unexpected; a gift that will inspire him to grow into a cool and interesting person.

This is a Voice... harmonising with the Wellcome Collection

April 22, 2016

So here is some exciting news that I have busting to share with you all for a while but I had to wait for it be official and on the walls. We were so pleased a few months back when the Wellcome Collection wanted to stock our products in their gift shop. Proclaiming itself to be the "destination for the incurably curious" it felt like the perfect place for our creations and helped us do a big tick on the bucket list by having our products in the gift shop of a really interesting museum.

Newton and the Apple, from the beginning...

March 23, 2016

I spent the last weekend at Jenny Hyde's Creative Business Retreat. The setting of Voewood was pretty dreamy to me. This big old house in the Norfolk countryside with curiosities at every turn; Jesus looking down at the dinner table, mosaic fish on the floor, hoover bags in frames... it was all just a bit bonkers and weird. Jenny worked her usual magic and I came away from the weekend with my focus and inspiration restored.

In my book stack...

In my book stack...

January 19, 2016

I love books! Who doesn't?! But in recent years I go through phases of being unable to read; I often find that I cannot concentrate enough to finish a paragraph because my mind is racing with other things, usually NATA-related things. It's great to have my book-reading mojo back at the moment though.

Designing for Valentine's Day...

Designing for Valentine's Day...

January 08, 2016

I don't know about you, but I am really not the mushy type; yet somehow I find Valentine cards really fun to design... as long as I stick to science and stay clear of all the love and hugs and stuff.

This 'body composition' card is the first of 8 new ideas I am working on this week.
